Midsummer Celebrations!
It’s Time to celebrate Swedish Midsommar!
Everyone residing in the northern latitudes needs an extra dose of sunshine after a long dark winter! If you are in the MN area check out the festivities going on at The Swedish Institute in Minneapolis. Break out your dancing shoes and Grandma’s Swedish recipes!
Swedish Midsommar is celebrated on the weekend closest to the summer solstice June 21, the longest day (light) of the year for anyone in the northern hemisphere. The festivities usually include folk dancing, singing, ring dancing and games. The May Pole is center stage and a beautiful part of this tradition and who doesn’t love the wreath of flowers for your hair?
Start a conversation with your relatives about the Midsummer celebration or create your own tradition. What a fun celebration for the whole family.
